A. Potential Issue:
Customer receives an "Active Air Box" message. Note: this is not the same as a check engine light (CEL) and is just a message indicating the Active Air Box is not functioning properly. Below are the possible reasons you are receiving this message.
Affected Part Numbers: 75-5068, 75-5068D
B. Possible causes:
1. The air box is not installed properly causing the swing gate to hit the filter.
2. The swing gate is not installed on the motor shaft.
3. The swing gate arm was not installed correctly on the shaft.
4. Customer tried to rotate the swing gate manually which stripped the swing gate arm.
5. Customer removed the swing gate arm after it was installed on the shaft which stripped the swing gate arm.
C. Solutions:
Possible Cause #1: The air box is not installed properly causing the swing gate to hit the filter.
i. Confirm Air Box is Installed Correctly: Make sure that the air-box is sitting flush on the bottom and that the pegs on the bottom of the box are in the holes of the battery tray.
ii. Confirm filter does not interfere with Swing Arm: Please make sure the filter is installed in the air-box correctly by making sure there is a gap between the top of the swing arm dam and the bottom of the filter.
iii. Drive 30-50 miles, Active Air Box Message should turn off: If the message does not go away after about 30-50 miles, proceed with steps below.
----------------
Possible Cause #2: The swing gate is not installed on the motor shaft.
Verify that the Swing Gate Arm is installed: The swing gate arm MUST be installed to avoid the "ACTIVE AIR" message. The dam on the arm is optional (see instructions) but the arm must be installed at all times. Warning: Never operate the vehicle with the Swing Gate Arm removed or a Active Air Box Error will result & require the motor to be sent to S&B to be reset.
----------------
Possible Cause #3: The swing gate arm was not installed correctly on the shaft.
Verify Swing Gate Arm was properly positioned on motor shaft: Confirm the flat side of the Swing Gate Arm is installed against the flat side of the motor's metal shaft.
----------------
Possible Cause #4: Customer tried to rotate the swing gate manually which stripped the swing gate arm.
Verify that the swing gate arm has not been stripped by gently trying to rotate the arm manually while it is installed on the shaft. The shaft on the motor will not rotate without an electrical signal. Do NOT attempt to rotate the swing gate manually. If you tried to do this during the initial installation, you may have stripped out the injection molded swing gate arm. To test this, gently try and rotate the swing gate arm while its installed on the shaft. It should not move more than a couple of degrees while it is installed. If it spins freely on the metal shaft, this part has been stripped and must be replaced. To do so, please contact S&B Filters support and ask for part number AI1622-00.
When you receive your new swing gate, you must reset the swing gate motor prior to installing. See the bottom of this article for steps on resetting the swing gate motor.
----------------
Possible Cause #5: Customer removed the swing gate arm after it was installed on the shaft which stripped the swing gate arm.
Confirm Swing Gate Arm was not removed from the metal shaft: Once the arm is placed on the motor shaft it should not be removed! Removal of the swing arm, once placed on the shaft, can damage this injection molded part causing it to slip when the motor pivots. If you removed the swing gate arm after installing it, please check to see if the swing gate arm is stripped by gently trying to rotate the swing gate arm while its installed on the shaft. It should not move more than a couple of degrees while it is installed. If it spins freely on the metal shaft, this part has been stripped and must be replaced. To do so, please contact S&B Filters support and ask for part number AI1622-00.

NOTE: If any of the solutions above indicated that you needed to reset the swing gate motor, see below.
How to reset the Active Air Motor:
1. Remove the S&B air box
2. Remove the swing gate motor from the S&B box
3. Place the motor into the factory air box
4. Connect the wire harness to the factory motor. You can just set the airbox on the engine without having to install it completely.
5. Push the Start Button WITHOUT putting your foot on the brake. This will cause the vehicle to power on without turning over the motor.
6. Go back to the swing gate motor quickly. With 10-30 seconds you will hear the swing gate motor beep indicating that the motor has been reset (if you do not hear the beep, contact S&B support).
7. Reinstall the motor on the S&B box and install back in the vehicle as called out for in the installation instructions.
